Media Survey

In our class we did a media survey. 27 students participated. We focused on four points.

1. Radio

On average students listen one hour daily to the radio, mostly music, but sometimes news too. We made a pie chart and the results are: 50% of the students listen between 0 till 30 minutes, 29% more than 90 minutes to the radio every day. Surprisingly, the majority has neither sent a record request nor taken part in a call- in- show. Only one pupil in our class did this.
An ordinary family has four radios at home but there are a few exceptions, e.g. one pupil’s family has got eleven radios. The programmes students listen to are very different, but in my opinion the great variety is very good.

2. Cinema

We all agreed that cinema is different to TV. But in contrast to that the class disagrees about the kinds of film. 12 students like action films, but 11 prefer comedy and 8 like horror films. In class there is a divided opinion about advertisement in the cinema. 11 students think negatively about it, 10 of my classmates like it and 3 don’t care about it at all.   3. Television

The pupils in our class watch Pro 7 and culture programmes, but it remained unclear what is meant by the latter one. Most of my classmates said that brutal video games should be banned and advertising is very boring and stressful, anyway the class watches a lot of TV per week.

4. Newspapers and Magazines

This is a difficult point, because the majority doesn’t read any newspaper. The logical consequence is that our class doesn’t spend much money for it. And what does the class read? We read many different magazines. Especially we like current things and culture.

Reading My viewing habits (TV) The theater

My viewing habits (TV)

I like watching TV. Usually I watch TV in the evening, above all on Wednesdays and Thursdays because on these days they broadcast my favourite series on “ProSieben”. That’s why  ProSieben is my favourite channel.
I like to do something else while I’m watching TV. For example eating, learning vocabulary or doing something for my beauty like combing my hair or applying lotion.J
But that’s all, I think doing homework while watching TV isn’t possible, there I need all my concentration. So when I watch TV, it often happens that I’m not only concentrated on the TV but also on other things, only if it’s a very good film, which I’m really interested in, I just watch.
That’s why I sometimes don’t get everything of a film.
But I also don’t like it, when there are other noises like a radio and so on or when my parents interrupt me while I’m watching TV. It doesn’t happen often that my parents and me watch a film together, only at a special event like the world cup or when there is a very famous film on TV.
But normally I watch TV alone or with my sister. Sometimes we watch DVD’s with my mother together.
All in all I watch nearly 4 to 5 hours a week, but nevertheless TV doesn’t play a big role in my life, but I can’t imagine a life without TV, that is for sure. Nhu Trang Nguyen Thi, 10.2

The theater

I often go to the cinema, but sometimes also to the theater. I want to write about my first experience with this medium. The first time I went to a theater was when I was an 11-year-old girl. My sister wanted to watch a play because of a school project in her German class and in the end the whole family joined her. We watched "Nathan der Weise" by G.E.Lessing, a German dramatist. At first I wasn't very excited about it but when I saw the theater buildung and when we were inside, it was such an amazing thing for me. The German Theater is very impressive and beautiful, it looks like an old school theater with its red curtains and golden accessories. We sat in a box and when the play began I became very excited, because this was something new to me. I liked the play very much.
It was so impressive that there were real people who played at the same time I was sitting there. It sounds silly but for me it was just a 'wow-I-like-it' which went through my mind. At the end my parents, my sister and me decided that we wanted to go to the theater more often.
